Vacation

Greetings from the UP

Kate and the Shipwreck

This is my first blog post. I’m a nine year old girl from Indianapolis, Indiana. This week my family and I are in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  We have had a great time, and the fun is not over yet!

We are in the Hiawatha National Forest.  Yesterday we hiked the Hurrican River Trail. It was 3 miles and I saw a shipwreck along the beach, and a lighthouse. The hike was a flat trail.  There was a low waterfall that I played in at the end of the trail.  I fell three times because it was so slippery.

After that trail, we drove to see a waterfall, the Sable Falls. There was a park ranger there who told us about the Beech Bore that is killing trees here. There is also a fish called the Lampry, that is killing Lake Superior fish by sucking their blood.  The Lake Superior Whitefish are too small to survive the attack of the Lamprey.
